On the AmyWinehouseForever.org Facebook page back in November 2012, we thought a street named after Amy Winehouse was a great idea.
We even made a mock-up of the street sign below.
Who would have guessed!
A street named Winehouse is now a possibility as bigwigs in North London are considering calling a new road Winehouse Street.
You can read more about the possibilities of a street named Winehouse from The Sun report below.
Tragic singer to have road named after her
IT’S less than two years since AMY WINEHOUSE tragically died but already there are a string of tributes planned.
Her dad MITCH has been working on a statue to be put up in Camden and this week her family confirmed there will be a docu-film about her short life.
Now the late singer could be immortalised with a road named after her.
Bigwigs in north London are considering calling a new road Winehouse Street — or perhaps Winehouse Way — in her memory.
Locals in the King’s Cross area, which borders Amy’s old Camden stomping ground, have been asked to help pick ten street names for an area being redeveloped for housing.
And Amy’s fans have rushed to submit the name Winehouse Street. Her family are backing the plan.
Mitch, who does great work with the Amy Winehouse Foundation, told Bizarre last night: “To think that our surname would be indelibly linked with London through the naming of a street after Amy is remarkable.
“We’re a London family through and through and it would be a tremendous honour if we do become a literal part of the fabric of this great city.”
The developers have yet to decide whether to pick the late diva’s name. They should — there can’t be many locals who made such an impact on music.
Other names in the frame for the new roads near the railway station pay homage to literary figures including CHARLES DICKENS and Frankenstein author MARY SHELLEY.
One proposal suggested a tribute to the area’s crime-ridden past by christening a road Let’s Be Avenue. Amy would surely appreciate that one.
We still believe a street named Winehouse would be a fitting tribute to the life and music of Amy Winehouse in her hometown Camden. Let’s hope it happens for Amy.
