Amy Winehouse inspires designer Jean-Paul Gaultier in his Haute Couture Spring Summer 2012 show in Paris.
“It is very joyous,” Mr. Gaultier said backstage. ”To me the scandal is that no fashion magazine did an Amy Winehouse cover. She was so exceptional in her style; how she held her body; the way she dressed, mixing pieces from different decades.”
“Amy Winehouse was a true style icon,” Gaultier told reporters.
The French designer played on Amy’s 1950’s and 60’s style with top model Karlie Kloss wearing some of the designers hourglass waist lines, pencil skirts, poka dots, as well as bustiers and layered brassieres mixed with bold colours and black.

Tribute to an icon: Jean-Paul Gaultier unveils Couture collection inspired by Amy Winehouse
While Jean-Paul Gaultier’s designs are often associated with pop singer Madonna, he today paid tribute to another musical diva as reported in the Dailymail.
The designer unveiled his couture show – inspired by the late Amy Winehouse.
Models walked the catwalk to a soundtrack by the singer, sporting her signature beehive hair and 50s-style fashion.
The collection included pencil skirts and corset dresses – one model was even pictured smoking a cigarette.
Amy’s unique sense of style always divided critics. While some lambasted her ‘scruffy’ look, others labeled her an icon.
The singer previously collaborated on a line with one of her favourite brands, Fred Perry.
Gaultier takes inspiration from the British brand, designing a white tennis dress with a similar logo.
The French designer is clearly a fan and reworked his classic bustier tops to suit the Back to Black singer’s look.
Male model Andrej Pejic was one of the models who starred in the show.
The Serbian-born Australian looked stunning with a blonde beehive and a beaty spot. Earlier in the day he Tweeted: ‘Nothing and I mean nothing beats couture!
Supermodel Karlie Kloss also featured on the runway.
Other Winehouse tributes included nipped-in waists and polka dots.
Fans of Back To Black singer Amy Winehouse were left devastated in July when it was revealed the star had died at her London flat at the age of 27.
Her mother Janis and father Mitch spoke of their grief over the untimely death of their incredibly talented daughter, with Mitch setting up a charitable foundation offering help to young people in need in Amy’s name.
Despite initial reports that she had purchased drugs the night before her death, an inquest in October found that Amy had drunk herself to death, with five-times the drink drive limit worth of alcohol found in her system.
Since her death, Amy’s name has lived on, with fans honouring the singer by buying her albums Frank and Back To Black – the latter of which became the best-selling UK album of the 21st century following her passing.
Amy Winehouse inspires designer Jean-Paul Gaultier because “What she stands for above all, is uniqueness. Both in music and the way she dressed, she mixed a great many influences” to create her style, Jean-Paul Gaultier said.
