In May 2007, Amy and Blake’s marriage took place in Miami, Florida US.

After first meeting in a Camden bar in 2005, Amy and Blake began what some have described as a toxic love affair.

Publicly… Amy was to refer to Blake as “the love of her life.”

Their love for each other and tattoos was undeniable — with Amy getting a shirt pocket and the word Blake’s tattooed on her left breast within a short time of meeting each other. Blake was to also get Amy’s name tattooed on his neck behind his right ear.

During their 2 year marriage — sadly addiction took over their lives.

After pressure from their respective families, Amy and Blake were granted a divorce in 2009.

In an interview with the Dailymail, Georgette Civil was quoted as saying: ‘Perhaps, with hindsight, that was the wrong thing to do. I know that Blake often blamed me for the divorce, saying he never wanted it to happen.

‘Mitch and I shared the fear that if they stayed together they would both end up dead but I think we all under-estimated the love she had for Blake. I certainly underestimated his love for her.

‘Mitch used to say: “If we separate them they both have a chance,” but neither of us anticipated what would happen.

At the time of Amy’s death in July 2011, Amy’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, was serving a 32 month sentence in jail for burglary and possession of an imitation firearm.

Brief Description:

The destructive relationship between Blake Fielder-Civil and Amy Winehouse consistently made headlines around the world but no one knows the truth of what really happened between the couple better than Blake’s mother, Georgette. In this powerful new book, she reveals the truth of the events leading up to the award-winning, soul singer’s untimely death and the impact it had on her son and family.

The drug and drink fuelled lifestyle of Amy and Blake was well documented by the world’s media and it seemed that their volatile and precarious relationship could only ever end in tragedy. When the unthinkable happened and his ex-wife died from alcohol poisoning in July 2011 Blake was publicly vilified and held accountable by the press, even though the couple had by then been living separate lives for some time. He has continued to battle his personal demons ever since.

Letting Blake Go is a moving account of a mother’s desperation as her son journeys towards self-destruction and she has to face the day when she must finally let him go for good.
