Amy Winehouse Fantasy Biopic

Mitch Winehouse has spoken to the Mirror about the possibility of an Amy Winehouse fantasy biopic.

“The idea is, if we do a film, we want to do something a bit different.

“Maybe a fantasy type thing, interwoven with the things that were actually going on.

“We’re looking at a number of options but I can’t give too much away.”

In the following article Mitch is also quoted as saying:

Lady Gaga said she wanted to play Amy, but I’d like to hear her do the accent. It’s that East End, Jewish, cockney…”

Amy Winehouse’s dad is in talks for a ‘fantasy biopic about the late star.

Mitch Winehouse insists the biopic would have to be different and could possibly have a fantasy element to it

Jazz singer Mitch Winehouse, whose daughter died of alcohol poisoning aged 27 in 2011, has previously spoken about the possibility of a Hollywood movie about the Back to Black star but insists it would have to be different to other biopics and could have a fantasy element to it.

Speaking at the launch of his new charity album But Beautiful at London’s Jazz Express Jazz Club last night, he told the Mirror: “It all depends what the definition of a biopic is. You’ve got your Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, you pick them out and put Amy in, it’s exactly the same film.

“The rise, the fall, the rise, the unfortunate outcome … whatever. It’s the same.

“The idea is, if we do a film, we want to do something a bit different.

“Maybe a fantasy type thing, interwoven with the things that were actually going on.

“We’re looking at a number of options but I can’t give too much away.”

Mitch revealed the family have been approached by movie bosses and Lady Gaga has reportedly shown interest in taking on the lead role.

He said: “If we do a movie, and it’s a big if, it won’t be a biopic in a biopic sense. Lady Gaga said she wanted to play Amy, but I’d like to hear her do the accent. It’s that East End, Jewish, cockney…”

It might be a bit tricky for an American to perfect – but Gaga does love her jazz and has even worked with close friend Tony Bennett, who also recorded with Amy.

Meanwhile, a life-sized memorial statue of the singer will be unveiled on Sunday at Stables Market in Camden, near where the star lived, to mark what would have been her 31st birthday.

Her dad’s jazz band, along with London singer Collette Cooper are expected to perform, and hundreds of people are likely to turn up to pay tribute to the late singer.

Mitch said: “It was originally going to be at The Roundhouse but we realised the access would have been limited.

“Then we spoke to the Stables Market, they wanted it in there, we’ve got a fantastic site in there. It’s a temporary site. The planning permission takes a lot of time. But it’s where it wants to be.”

A new book, Loving Amy, is also set to be released by the singer’s mum, Janis, to raise money for the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

New record But Beautiful, which features a number of jazz songs he chose with his daughter before her death, will also pull in funds for the charity when it is released on October 13.

The foundation was set up to help young people battling various problems, including addiction.

Mitch said: “The first album we did independently and that came out in June 2010.

“We had a lot of fun and Amy was up to her usual antics … we did laugh a lot. This is now through Universal, it’s a proper job.

He added: “We have really come to terms with the fact that we have to promote all the time to keep the foundation going.”

What Is A Biopic?

Wikipedia explains a biopic as: A biographical film, or biopic is an abbreviation for biographical motion picture) — a film that dramatizes the life of an actual person or people. Such films show the life of a historical person and the central character’s real name is used. They differ from films “based on a true story” or “historical films” in that they attempt to comprehensively tell a person’s life story or at least the most historically important years of their lives.

And this ….

The Oliver Stone film about the band The Doors, mainly about Jim Morrison, was highly praised for the similarities between Jim Morrison and actor Val Kilmer, look-wise and singing-wise, but fans and band members did not like the way Oliver Stone portrayed Jim Morrison, and a few of the scenes were even completely made up.
