Amy Winehouse’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil is fighting for his life following alcohol and drugs binge’
AMY Winehouse’s ex-husband is fighting is for his life following an alcohol and drugs binge, it was claimed last night.
Blake Fielder-Civil, 30, was reportedly found choking in bed after a drinking session, and rushed to hospital in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
He is currently on a life-support machine after suffering multi-organ failure.
Sarah Aspin, 34, mother of Fielder-Civil’s 15-month-old son Jack, said she is having to prepare herself ‘that he may never wake up.’
She told The Sun: ‘The doctors say they don’t know the prognosis. They said they put him in a coma to help him and due to infection.’
Miss Aspin said they the couple discussed getting married just last week – but he later staggered home after a drinking session with a friend.
She called paramedics, who said Fielder-Civil had swallowed his tongue, choked on his vomit and his left lung was not working.
Miss Aspin said: ‘They let me in to hold his hand after 45 minutes. I found out later that they did that because they thought he was going to die.’
Fielder-Civil’s friend, Yeya Jáuregui, said yesterday that he was still in a coma and urged his fans to ‘keep on praying.’
She said on Twitter: ‘Honestly, I haven’t read news about this but I have Blake on Facebook and all of his friends are concerned about him.’
Fielder-Civil, who has battled a heroin addiction for years, was jailed in 2008 for assault – and again last year for burglary and imitation firearm possession.
He said in 2010: ‘You wake up and you’re poorly. Then you have to see somebody you don’t really like to pick up drugs (and) then perhaps you can function throughout the day.
‘The nature of addiction is that you have to persevere in it, otherwise the physical sickness you get is unbearable.’
Winehouse, who also struggled with addiction, was found dead in July 2011 at her home in Camden, north London, at the age of just 27.
The singer’s death was the result of drinking too much alcohol, a coroner said, and she was more than five times the drink-drive limit.
Winehouse met Fielder-Civil in a pub in 2005 and they married in Miami in 2007 just a month after becoming engaged, but divorced two years later.
Last year his mother Georgette Fielder-Civil admitted she was fearful for his health.
Nobody was available for comment last night at West Yorkshire Police or at Dewsbury and District Hospital.
The news that Blake Fielder-Civil is fighting for his life is sad but not surprising. Blake has been hell-bent on self-destruction for most of his adult life.
During an interview with the News of the World in 2008, Blake admitted he introduced Amy Winehouse his ex-wife to crack cocaine and heroin.
After Amy’s death in July last year, he said: “We loved each other intensely and probably in a really unhealthy co-dependent way and we probably called it all sorts of things, passionate, fiery and whatever but sexually it was spot-on, I guess.”
“You can’t have a relationship and be a heroin addict, you can’t. If you don’t have access to money you’re going out thieving and you’re going to be in jail half the time, it’s not a way to live.”
