Amy Winehouse and Karl Lagerfeld It’s not a question of whether or not Amy Winehouse was considered a fashion icon.
The truth is, Amy Winehouse did make an undeniable impression on the industry during her musical career.
Amy’s fashion style
From her bouffant beehive hairdo, winged black eyeliner to her retro style short, tight, cleavage-flaunting dresses. Amy Winehouse was in her own way a fashion icon who embraced the fashion style of the 50’s and 60’s and stamped her own mark on it.
drjays reports… the world was so used to Amy Winehouse making headlines only when it came to her addictions in recent years — from narcotics to her love life — it may be news to many that she just dropped her second clothing collection with designer Fred Perry.
She collaborated with the brand in fall 2010 on a collection that reflected her signature 1950s style, yet adding a modern preppy twist. A healthy looking Amy modeled the looks herself, which included polos, a black trench coat, a knit dress and more.

The spring/summer 2011 collection launched in March, and much like the first one, it is clean, flirty and affordable, with many pieces in the $100 range.
It’s been said Amy chose the Hawaiian theme herself, which is seen through the collection, and was generally very involved when it came to development.
Richard Martin, a marketing manager from Fred Perry, told Harper’s Bazaar that Amy was a “delight — bright, passionate, and dedicated, with strong ideas of exactly what it was that she wanted from the range. Detailing, fabrics — she was all over it. All over it.”
Speaking of Bazaar, in her fall 2010 interview with the magazine about her Fred Perry collection, Amy stated (after indulging in a few glasses of wine) that her inspiration was the late Elizabeth Taylor along with “Thelonious Monk. Charlie Mingus. Miles Davis … Thelonious Monk again, and then rappers that are around right now, like Nas, um, um, Busta Rhymes, and Mos Def.”
When asked about her style inspiration, she said “Chanel,” and when the interviewer brought up the idea of Amy being a style icon, with her tattoos, beehive hair and thick black eyeliner, this is what she had to say: “Uh-huh. I don’t think that’s true. I just dress like… I’m an old black man.
Sorry! Like I’m an old Jewish black man. I just dress like it’s still the ’50s.”
Amy closed the interview by stating…
“If I died tomorrow, I would be a happy girl.”
