This (incomplete) YouTube video is Amy Winehouse performing Valerie At Joe’s Pub in 2007.
Although this video is incomplete, the performance is significant. Joe’s Pub is noted for having hosted thousands of artists, including the U.S. debut of Amy Winehouse in 2007, and has been called “the only truly multicultural venue in New York… a hip musical clearinghouse.”
Joe’s Pub is known as one of New York City’s live showcase venues, catering to an eclectic mix of musical genres.
On Wednesday April 11, 2012, Mitch and Janis Winehouse launched the Amy Winehouse Foundation US at a press conference at Joe’s Pub. Joe’s Pub was chosen as the perfect location for the announcement as it was, as mentioned the venue where Amy made her American performance debut on January 16, 2007.
Joe’s Pub is located at 425 Lafayette Street near Astor Place in Manhatten, New York City. The club is named after Joesph Papp the theatrical producer who established the New York Shakespeare Festival, The Public Theatre and the free Shakespeare in the Park program in Central Park.
In true Amy Winehouse style, Amy interrupts her first US concert, at Joe’s Pub, to ask for an amaretto sour. “They keep trying to keep me from drinking, but they forget it’s my gig.”
